The Seymour United Methodist Church is inviting the public to take some time out June 9 to enjoy a performance by The Whatever Band. This local group, made up of four men with children and jobs, won a featured artist slot at the 2012 Connecticut Folk Music Festival and has been receiving airtime on WPKN with their CD.

The band’s music style ranges from blues to jazz to African and experimental. Band member Steve Prasinos composes lyrics that can make an audience laugh, cry and think. Their musical arrangements are best shown in their songs, “International Man” and “The Duck in the Truck and the Cow in the Now.” The band’s music can be heard here.

The concert is Sunday, June 9, at 3:30 p.m. at the church, 90 Pearl Street, Seymour. The event is a fund-raiser for the church’s charitable activities and a showcase for a local band. There is no admission fee for the show, but the church suggests a $15-$20 donation.

A dinner immediately follows the show. To reserve a spot for the dinner call 203-751-6919. For information about the event visit umcthepearl.com.
