Derby tops Ansonia in NVL battle

The Derby High baseball team bolted to a 6-1 lead and weathered a three-run rally by Ansonia to emerge with a 6-4 NVL victory at Ryan Field on Wednesday.
Derby’s Mike Kreiger singled in two runs and Victor Soto smashed a two-run home run in a four-run third-inning uprising.
Ansonia bounced back with three runs in the top of the fifth, with Ryan O’Connor rocketing a two-run triple and scoring on a fielder’s choice.
Kreiger came on to pitch the final two innings for Derby, and allowed only a two-out single from Corey Dzienkiewicz in the sixth.
