Police: Derby woman kidnapped elderly woman and stole her car

Orange Police served an arrest warrant on Holli Tapley, 34, of Derby, for second degree kidnapping, second degree robbery, two counts of second degree larceny, second degree threatening, also credit card theft and illegal use of a credit card.

The arrest resulted from a Feb. 14 incident where Tapley confronted an elderly female victim in front of a business on the Boston Post Road. Tapley ordered the victim to drive her to a second location where Tapely told the victim to get out and stole the victims’ car. Tapley went through the victims’ belongings and stole cash and credit cards, which were used to make purchases at businesses in Orange and surrounding towns. The victim was uninjured.

With the assistance of Derby Police, Tapley was developed as a suspect and interviewed by Orange Detective Michael Morrin. Tapley provided a full confession as well as the location of the victims’ car and some belongings.

Tapley is being held on $75,000 bond. She was also charged by Derby Police and North Haven Police who held arrest warrants in addition to Orange. Her next court date is March 4 in Derby Superior Court.

      Tapley has pleaded Not Guilty to all of her charges. She remains in custody in lieu of $75,000 bond and her next court date is May 16.
